The star of Civita di Bagnoregio shines in Samarkand.

The United Nations World Tourism Organization includes it in the upgrade program for Best Tourism Villages.

Civita di Bagnoregio has been chosen by the United Nations World Tourism Organization to be part of the upgrade program for Best Tourism Villages. This UN program aims to identify and promote sustainable development initiatives in rural areas that harness the potential of tourism to preserve small villages and communities while creating new opportunities.

"An important recognition for Bagnoregio, which acknowledges the work done in recent years and emphasizes the commitment we've dedicated to improving the quality of our tourism development in recent times. Following the international success of Civita di Bagnoregio, which has brought us significant tourist flows, we've entered a new phase focused on extending visitors' stays. This strategic goal aligns us with other municipalities in Tuscia, united in the common purpose of promoting the region and supporting the efforts of private individuals working to offer unique experiences. It's no coincidence that in recent months, three new walking routes have emerged with Bagnoregio as their centerpiece. Today's recognition places Italy's village communities at the center of the world stage. Our congratulations go to Lerici, which has been awarded the title of Best Tourism Village, and to Sabbioneta, who, like us, enters the upgrade project. A sincere thank you goes to the Government, the Ministry of Tourism, and the Lazio Region led by President Rocca, for presenting Civita's candidacy," says Mayor Luca Profili of Bagnoregio.

The decision was made this morning during the United Nations World Tourism Organization assembly taking place in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

Civita di Bagnoregio was chosen from a pool of 260 candidates representing sixty countries worldwide. The upgrade program to which Civita has been admitted will integrate it into a global network of excellence. This network will collaborate on sustainable development, counteracting depopulation, infrastructure, health, and safety initiatives.

"This is an important confirmation that we are on the right path," says Francesco Bigiotti, the sole administrator of Casa Civita. "We now need to share our know-how with other entities and apply the best global practices to our territory. It's not an easy challenge, but until a few years ago, bringing Bagnoregio into the international tourism spotlight would have seemed impossible."
